What is Polywood?

POLYWOOD lumber is a low-maintenance, recyclable lumber. It is a wood alternative used in outdoor furniture that has exceptional durability. POLYWOOD is built to withstand hot sun, snowy winters, and strong coastal winds and requires no painting, staining, or waterproofing.

Is POLYWOOD made from recycled materials?

POLYWOOD is made from mostly recycled materials, such as milk and detergent bottles or other HDPE post industrial materials.

What is HDPE?

POLYWOOD lumber is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), UV-inhibited pigment systems, foaming compounds, and selected process additives. The HDPE primary raw material is derived from post-consumer bottle waste, such as milk and detergent bottles or other HDPE post industrial material. This material is cleaned by a decontamination process to a high purity level, which removes contaminants such as food residue, paper, and adhesives. It is then compounded into a rigid board stock material; with the resulting finished product containing over 90% recycled plastic by weight.

Is the POLYWOOD color only on the surface?

No, the POLYWOOD lumber color runs all the way through.

What is the weight of POLYWOOD chairs?

The weight of a POLYWOOD chair is similar to that of a hardwood chair averaging 30 to 50 lbs. each. This means that even in strong winds you won't have to worry about furniture blowing away.

Does it contain wood or natural fibers?

POLYWOOD is made from HDPE and does not contain wood or any natural fibers.

Is it UV protected?

POLYWOOD lumber contains UV-inhibited pigment systems that reduces fading.

Can POLYWOOD be painted?

POLYWOOD does not need to be painted, stained or sealed in any way due to the durable nature of the material.

Can it be sanded?

Although minor scratches can be addressed with a light sanding, POLYWOOD cannot be completely resurfaced using sandpaper.

How do I clean POLYWOOD?

  1. Wash POLYWOOD using a soft rag, soap and warm water.
  2. Mix ⅓ bleach and ⅔ water solution for stains and additional cleaning power.
  3. Us a soft bristle brush to get into creases and scrub any corroding areas of hardware.
  4. Apply appliance touch up paint in the appropriate color to protect hardware.

*You may use a high pressure power wash as an alternative cleaning method, as long as you do not to exceed 1,500 psi.

Can POLYWOOD be power washed with a pressure washer?

A high pressure power washer may be used for regular maintenance to keep your furniture looking like new. Pressure should not exceed 1,500 psi, which is the equivalent of a car wash. The surface characteristics of the product may require the use of a soft bristle brush to get into the creases.

What is the hardware made from?

POLYWOOD uses genuine stainless steel hardware for optimal performance and longevity.

Does POLYWOOD furniture have a warranty?

Yes, POLYWOOD has a 20 year residential warranty and a one year commercial warranty.

Is assembly required?

POLYWOOD furniture is designed to require minimal assembly. Some models even unfold right out of the box with no assembly necessary. Those that require assembly often take less than 30 minutes to complete and include basic tools with simple instructions.
